The Elephant Sanctuary of Tennessee The Elephant Sanctuary is located on 2,700 acres in Tennessee and allows old, sick, or needy elephants rescued from zoos and circuses to roam free. The idea is to allow elephants to behave as naturally as possible. In the wild, elephant often walk 50 miles in a single day. Thus the sanctuary allows the elephants to roam the area in herds. The sanctuary handles both African and Asian elephants and has a quarantine facility for sick elephants. In addition to caring for elephants, they offer educational material to schools. There's a lesson plan for K-3 and 4-8 which can be downloaded from their website. Most of the sanctuary is monitored by video camera, so they also offer an elephant webcam. Thus students can watch students live online.
