How to tell if fruit is genetically modified So you're staring at the local produce section and wondering how good these really are for you. Are they organically or conventionally grown? Are they genetically modified? In the US you can check out the number on the sticker stuck to your fruits and vegetables * A 4 digit number means its conventionally grown, unmodified * A 5 digit number that starts with a NINE means its organically grown * A 5 digit number starting with an EIGHT means its genetically modified No sticker? Look to see if it if printed directly on the fruit. Some packers now use edible dies to print directly on the fruit.
