Car hop service in CT- Sycamore restaurant
The Sycamore drive in in Bethel, CT is named for the enormous Sycamore tree beside it, which is roughly 20 feet around. The tree and restaurant sit at the intersection of Route 302 and Route 53. The Sycamore is a 50s style drive in that still offers genuine car hop service. Flash your lights to get car side service. However, most people opt to eat inside so they can check out the restaurants collection of memorabilia. From May through September Saturday night is Cruise Night where locals bring in all their vintage roadsters and listen to a local band. The menu is also vintages 50s, focusing on burgers and fries served up fast and fresh. You can watch them cook. The speed of service is comparable to a fast food chain, but much higher quality. If you can't sit and eat, take out is available. Recommended items:
Dagwood Burger- a steak burger with cheese, lettuce, tomato, pickles, onions, ketchup, mustard, and mayonnaise on a buttered and toasted bun. Clams in a Basket- Hot fried, battered clams with a side of fries and a lemon wedge. Root beer or the root beer float- They make their own root beer. Has a much richer, fuller taste than commercial root beer with less sugar. Served in a frosted mug. French fries- thick, meaty fries the size of your finger |
