Books for Africa- charity Books for Africa is a charity with a simple mission, send books to Africa. BFA was started in 1988 after the founder visited Jinja, Uganda. Jinja is Uganda's second largest city. Despite that, the library stood almost empty. The building was there, the shelves were there, but only a few dozen books that were there. Books for Africa sends whole 40 foot shipping containers of books to Africa. Each container contains roughly 35,000 books which have been carefully sorted by subject and reading level so they can be picked up and distributed by local organizations. This is more efficient than sending them by standard mail. Even though they have shipped more than 15 million books to Africa, many schools still share one textbook between five or six students. You can make a donation of money or books to Books for Africa.
