American Kennel Club Canine Health Foundation The AKC Canine Health Foundation funds research into canine genetics. Most of the emphasis is on genetic disorders confined to specific breeds, but they also fund basic genetic research on things such as coat color and cancer. Even if you don't have money to contribute to research, if your dog is one of the breeds they're researching, you may still be able to contribute to various research projects by contributing a blood sample or cheek swab from your dog for genetic testing. Most studies are researching specific conditions in a few breeds, but some studies are basic genetic research open to dogs of all breeds. You can check what studies are looking for dogs to participate here. Most studies you can just have your vet prepare the sample and mail it away to help researchers.
